The Greater Hartford office market continued to strengthen in 2014 with declining vacancy rates, as current and new tenants absorbed more space. Leasing activity heated up in the third quarter with over 97,000 square feet of available space becoming occupied, representing the fourth consecutive quarter of positive gains. This pushed the vacancy rate down to 16.3 percent, which is the tightest the Greater Hartford office market has been in the past five years. To read more click here.
CBRE/New England joined an enthusiastic crowd of over 10,000 attendees at the Massachusetts Conference for Women held at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center on December 4. The event, in its tenth year, offers attendees the chance to participate in over 30 workshops and listen to over 100 speakers, in addition to ample opportunities for networking, professional development and personal growth.
The conference began with an opening keynote session that included speeches from Roman Blanco, President & CEO at Santander U.S.; Ann Fudge, Former Chairwoman & CEO at Young & Rubicam; as well as a fireside chat session with Tory Burch, CEO at Tory Burch, and Anne Finucane, Global Chief Strategy & Marketing Officer at Bank of America, focusing on the power of ambition. The day’s workshops were led by industry-expert panels and included topics such as personal finance, business, how to receive and handle feedback, entrepreneurship, self-promotion, life/work balance and health. Additionally, attendees were able to visit a host of vendors and participate in professional development activities offered throughout the day in the Exhibit Hall.
The highlight of the conference for many was the keynote luncheon, which included speeches from Academy Award-winning actress, Lupita Nyong’o, and Former Secretary of State and Former New York Senator, Hillary Rodham Clinton. Nyong’o’s keynote was very heartfelt, offering advice on ‘Fearlessly Following Your Dreams.’ She touched on her own experiences with failure and how she overcame those failures to achieve her dreams and incredible success. Clinton’s keynote was equally brave, opening with remarks on the current national discussion of the recent grand jury decisions of Ferguson, Missouri and Staten Island, New York. She continued by speaking to the sold-out crowd about women’s issues including equal pay, paid leave and ‘having it all.’ Clinton’s session ended with a playful poke by moderator Hannah Grove, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of State Street Corporation, on ‘What qualities are most important in a first gentleman?”
Overall, it was an incredible day of learning and sharing on the topics that matter most to the professional woman, providing attendees with advice and ideas to be applied in their own professional and personal lives. We left feeling invigorated and inspired to share some of the day’s knowledge with our colleagues. To learn more about this year’s conference, please click here.
